Two Days in Udaipur: Exploring the timeless beauty of the City of Lakes

It's been a year since we had the blessing of visiting our artisans in India! Lately we’ve been reminiscing with our friends, sharing our most memorable joys and experiences of the incredible continent they call home. On our way to the village of Manamedu—where the fabric for our handloom pieces are handcrafted—we stopped by the beautiful city of Udaipur. Mesmerised by its charm, we decided to shoot some of our sample pieces amongst the gorgeous backdrop of Lake Pichola. Full of nostalgic daydreaming, we’ve put together a two day travel guide of our favourite highlights from this magical city.

Nestled in the heart of Rajasthan, the city of Udaipur is a place where we felt history and romance blend seamlessly. Known as the "City of Lakes", Udaipur is a picturesque destination that captivated our souls with its stunning architecture, serene lakes, and rich cultural heritage. If you find yourself with a couple of days to spend amongst its enchanting waters, here’s our must see’s and do’s to make the most out of your visit.

Begin with a visit to the iconic City Palace. As you wander through this magnificent palace complex, you'll be transported to a world of opulence and grandeur. The architecture is a captivating blend of Rajput and Mughal styles, and the panoramic views of Lake Pichola from the palace are breathtaking.

Take a leisurely stroll along the banks of Lake Pichola and enjoy a boat ride to the Lake Palace ~ an exquisite marble structure seemingly floating on the serene waters!

Indulge in some delicious Rajasthani cuisine at one of the lakeside restaurants. Dal Baati Churma and Gatte ki Sabzi were our must-try local dishes whilst we immersed ourselves in the mesmerising reflections of the lake’s surface.

Continue your exploration with a visit to Saheliyon Ki Bari, the Garden of the Maidens. This beautifully landscaped garden with fountains, kiosks, marble pavilions, and a delightful lotus pool offers a light escape from the bustling city vibes amongst the bazaars.

Savour the sunset at Monsoon Palace, perched on a hill with panoramic views of the city and its lakes. The spectacle of the setting sun casting a golden glow on the waters and the city is simply stunning.

Start your second day with a visit to Jagdish Temple, a significant masterpiece of Indo-Aryan architecture. The intricate carvings and spiritual atmosphere make it a sacred site to remember.

You can’t miss a wander through the vibrant bazaars of Udaipur! The old city area is a treasure trove of traditional crafts, including textiles, jewellery, and miniatures. You may have to test your skills with bartering for souvenirs!

Embrace more flavours of Rajasthan and sample the delectable street food like kachori, chaat, and the sweet malpua at the local stalls.

Explore the iconic Bagore Ki Haveli, a historic mansion that now houses a museum. It offers a glimpse into the royal lifestyle with an impressive collection of artefacts, costumes, and intriguing displays.

Conclude your Udaipur experience with some live folk dances and traditional music performances, offering a window into Rajasthan's rich heritage.
